Facial FAQs Pt. 1

At Me Skin and Body, we always aim to have our clients informed, comfortable and looking forward to their next facial. Read on for some of our most Frequently Asked Questions

I've never had a professional facial before - What can I expect? What do I wear?

You can come wearing whatever you are most comfortable in. We will offer you a robe to wear during the treatment.

You can expect to complete a consultation form that tells us a lot about your skin concerns, history, lifestyle and other influencing factors. We will then thoroughly cleanse your skin whilst asking you further questions pertaining to your skin condition to help us better understand your needs.

After cleansing we will analyse your skin with a Wood lamp to see what is happening on the deeper layers and then with our magnifying lamp to look at the surface condition.

Once the analytical part has been completed we will then advise you which treatment/s are most appropriate for your skin taking into consideration our findings and your concerns.

The treatment itself will vary greatly depending on your needs however will likely consist of an exfoliation (either physical like microdermabrasion or chemical like a hydroxy acid treatment). A suitable infusion or mask may happen and often a delightful face, neck and shoulder massage will be performed.

Do I need to know what kind of treatment I want before I come in?

No, we will determine this and discuss it with you in detail after our comprehensive skin analysis.

I'm embarrassed that I don't eat as well as I should and don't work out a lot, do I REALLY need to mention these kinds of things to my aesthetician?

You don’t have to however it will enable us to better assist you with your skin’s needs if we have a clear picture of your lifestyle and habits as these have a big impact on the skin.

Why do I have to mention the drugs and supplements I take on the client sheet
Certain drugs can contraindicate certain treatments which could cause adverse reactions if we were to perform these treatments without knowing about these medications.

Supplements are often suggested as part of our homecare program so if we know what you are already taking we can avoid doubling up.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my facial?

Certain Peels require prepping however you will be informed of this prior to treatment if it’s necessary. Avoiding sun exposure for at least a week prior to treatment is ideal. Always tell your therapist if you have had any recent Laser, IPL or other cosmetic procedures prior to a facial.
