About Microdermabrasion

As the largest organ in your body, your skin plays a vital role in protecting you from infection and shielding your body from damaging substances. Ageing, coupled with the effects of our harsh Australian climate take their toll on the skin’s appearance. It loses its smoothness. Early on, fine lines appear and later the collagen beneath the skin weakens, forming deeper lines and often discolouration.

Microdermabrasion treatments accomplish what no other non-surgical procedure can do in combating the signs of aging, sun-damaged skin and facial rejuvenation.

Our skin has a brilliant ability to repair itself. Amongst other capabilities, microdermabrasion is designed to stimulate this reaction.

What actually is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a system of intense exfoliation and resurfacing that rejuvenates the skin by utilizing ultra-fine corundum crystals. These crystals strike the skin to remove its outer layer whilst a vacuum tube sweeps up both the crystals and the skin's cellular debris.

Lymphatic drainage of the skin is increased and the production of collagen and elastin is stimulated. This improved circulation brings oxygen and nutrients to refresh and regenerate your skin resulting in healthier, fresher, firmer, more youthful looking skin. Unlike laser resurfacing treatments, the procedure is not traumatic. Therefore there is absolutely no downtime but the results are just as potent!

Over a series of treatments, you'll also notice a considerable reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, refining of enlarged pores, elimination of blackheads and whiteheads, reduction of scarred tissue (such as acne or chicken pox scars) and a reduction of blemishes caused by sun damage.

Who would benefit from Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion can be used in the treatment of sunspots, pigmentation, acne (it is particularly good for comedonal acne/blackheads), acne scarring, fine lines, open pores, and dull skin. It is most commonly used on the face, but can be used on the neck, back, and hands.

How many sessions are necessary?

This mostly depends on the concern or condition. Generally, a series of 6 treatments at fortnightly intervals will achieve great results. For more severe cases, a further 4 treatments may be required.

Contraindications

Whilst there are very few cases where microdermabrasion is inappropriate, careful consideration needs to be made for clients who have used Roaccutane or Retin A within the last 6-12 months or antibiotics for the skin within 2 months.

What kind of results can I expect?

Usually you will notice an immediate improvement in your skin’s texture and appearance. Your skin will immediate show a fresh, clear appearance. Cumulative improvement will continue throughout the treatment program. The full result will not be evident until the fresh new skin growth stimulated by the treatment covers the area.

The results are amazing.
